Charvak: antiquity of the mountains
Charvak is an incomparable resort area of amazing beauty – and at the same time it breathes history …
The Charvak reservoir is located on the Chirchik river slightly downstream of the confluence of the Pskem and Chatkal rivers between the spurs of the Ugam and Chatkal ranges of the western Tien Shan.
On the shore of the reservoir there are numerous pensions, recreation areas and children’s summer sports and recreation camps.
Before the construction of the huge dam, where Chatkal and Ugam merge and the Chirchik River is born, there is a large and very ancient village of Khojikent, which means “populated by saints”. Legends consider Khodjikent the same age as Tashkent. The historical core of Khodjikent is a spring with thousand-year-old plane trees on the left bank of the Chirchik. In the XIX century. here stood – a giant – one of the largest in Central Asia – a plane tree, in the hollow of which was placed a roadside teahouse. From time immemorial, this plane tree in these parts was called the plane tree of Iskander the Two-Horned. And, if we assume that the legends are true, then here is perhaps the most northern place where Alexander the Great stepped on his foot!
Charvak, Alexander the Great, petroglyphs Perhaps it was in these amazingly beautiful mountains that he decided to turn back south to India, as unknown and unknown land stretched further north and east from Chimgan, which apparently made no sense to pass through. For Alexander, it was the land of ecumenicalism. For you – a place covered with legends and secrets, a source of knowledge about the amazing past of the region. But this ancient land is not alive by single legends.
In the area of the Charvak reservoir in the Bostanlyk region, there is a huge number of the oldest historical and archaeological sites in Uzbekistan.
In particular, not far from Charvak on the Paltau River, which is the right tributary of the Chatkal River, there is a famous site of primitive people. Here, literally every square meter of the surrounding space carries so much interesting information that it is simply breathtaking.
Petroglyphs (cave paintings) – this is what the Bostanlyksky district boasts. Hunting magic and everything connected with it – of course, drawings are dedicated to this! Therefore, there are so many images of mountain goats, which were the livelihood of the population of these places. The monument to the mountain goat, erected in our time on Charvak, mountains, a reservoir one of the mountain slopes of Charvak, also testifies to the important role of this animal in the life of ancient society. You can’t imagine what an impression he makes on passing and passing travelers who do not even know about its existence! And he looks out of the thicket and as if wishes the travelers a happy journey.
Also a very interesting historical place located on the banks of the Charvak reservoir is the village of Bogiston, the birthplace of two prominent people of its time. This is Sheikh Hovendi at-Tahur (Sheikhantaur), born here in the 13th century, whose mausoleum in Tashkent is one of the main historical and architectural attractions of the city. And Sheikh Ubaidullah Ahror, a distant descendant of Sheikh Hovendi at-Tahur (Sheikhantaura). Ubaidullah Ahror was a great master of Sufism and the leader of the Muslim clergy of the region in the 15th century.
This is more than enough to step on the ancient earth, breathe in the fresh mountain air, from which you feel dizzy, see with your own eyes all the delights of the land and rush towards new sensations and impressions that you will be full after completing your journey not only through the picturesque places of Charvak reservoirs, but also a living legend of the Tashkent region and one of the attractions of Uzbekistan.
